Over 2 Lakh Women Join Congress in 20 Days: Alka Lamba
New Delhi, Oct 5 (PV News) Over 2 lakh women have joined the Congress party through its nationwide online membership drive in just 20 days, according to All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) President Alka Lamba. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, Lamba highlighted the party’s commitment to securing political, financial, and societal justice for women under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, as part of the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
Lamba praised the high turnout of women in Haryana’s elections, noting their growing engagement in the political process and support for Congress’s promises, including greater political representation. The party fielded 12 women candidates in the 90-seat Haryana Assembly.
She criticized the BJP government for stalling the women’s reservation bill, which would ensure 33% representation for women, and reiterated Congress’s promise to lower LPG prices to Rs 500 to reduce financial burdens. Lamba also supported wrestler and Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat, accusing Prime Minister Modi and the Delhi Police of neglecting the concerns of protesting women athletes.
