Iran Supports Gaza, Lebanon Ceasefire; Warns Israel of Escalated Retaliation
Damascus, Oct 6 (P.V Desk) Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi has expressed Iran’s support for a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, while warning Israel of a proportional and potentially stronger response to any attacks. Speaking during a press conference at the conclusion of his one-day visit to Syria on Saturday, Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to backing the “resistance” against Israel and vowed continued aid and coordination with Syria to assist displaced Lebanese refugees, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
“There are two urgent priorities: addressing the needs of Lebanese refugees and securing a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon,” Araghchi said. He added that Iran has already sent humanitarian aid to support Lebanese refugees in Syria, with additional assistance expected to follow.
Addressing the possibility of an Israeli strike on Iran, Araghchi issued a stern warning: “Our response to any Israeli attack will be proportional, or even stronger if necessary. We have demonstrated our resolve before, and they are welcome to test it again.”
The Iranian foreign minister mentioned that regional and international efforts to broker a ceasefire are ongoing, though he did not provide specific details. He stressed that any ceasefire terms must be acceptable to both the Palestinians and Lebanese.
When questioned about Iran’s ties with Syria, Araghchi underscored the strategic partnership between the two nations, affirming that Iran’s support for Syria will remain steadfast under all circumstances.
During his visit, Araghchi also held meetings with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi Jalali to discuss efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Lebanese families fleeing Israeli military operations in Lebanon.
